Royal Mail Auto-Legends Stamps and Collectibles

If, like me, you have a bit of a thing about beautiful motors then you will love this set of British Auto Legends stamps from Royal Mail which were released in August. Ever since I was about 9 years old I have collected the occasional first day cover or special release of stamps and this collection of classic cars and vehicles makes a wonderful addition to my collection.

This year sees the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sir Henry Royce who founded Rolls-Royce with Charles Rolls. It is also the centenary of the founding of Aston Martin so there is plenty to celebrate in British motoring history.

The six-stamp set of British classics from the 60s and 70s features the ‘Thoroughbreds,’ arguably of the greatest cars of all time - the Jaguar E-Type, Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, Aston Martin DB5, MG MGB, Morgan Plus 8 and the Lotus Esprit. The six thoroughbreds were hunted down by Royal Mail, and in virtually factory fresh conditions they were photographed by James Mann (specialist car photographer) with specialist lighting set up to capture the classic lines of each vehicle.

The ‘Thoroughbreds’ are complemented by a four-stamp mini-sheet featuring the classic and iconic ‘Workhorses’ – the Morris Minor Van (in Royal Mail livery no less!), Austin FX4 black taxi cab, Ford Anglia 105E and Land Rover Defender 110. All iconic vehicles that it is hard to imagine our world without.

I think the British Auto Legends is a fabulous set of stamps and I'm proud to have them in my own collection.

You can view the full range at; the range includes framed prints, postcards and even model vehicles to match the stamps.
